There are certain things Christians can accidentally treat like a “phase.” Like sourdough starters. Or Christian books you swear you’re going to finish. Or the Gospel. We’d never say we’ve moved on from the Gospel… But sometimes we act like it’s the front door to the Christian life— and then we wander off into the rest of the house like, “Alright, thanks Jesus. We’ve got it from here.” But the Gospel isn’t the entry point we graduate from. It’s the center we return to. It’s the air the church breathes. It’s the message that fuels our preaching, our singing, our praying, and our perseverance. Today we’re talking about a shared value that keeps the church anchored: Gospel-centered doctrine and gospel-centered preaching— because our hope isn’t our plans and labor… it’s a Person—Jesus Christ—crucified, risen, and reigning.
In this episode of CLF Conversations, Perry and Pastor Dave continue the Shared Values series by exploring Gospel-Centered Doctrine & Preaching. The gospel isn’t a message we outgrow—it’s the central announcement of God’s saving work in Jesus Christ and the interpretive center of the entire Bible.
Drawing from Ephesians 1, Luke 24, and 1 Corinthians 15, they discuss how the gospel is the pinnacle of God’s redemptive plan, the thread that ties Scripture together, and the essential message that shapes Christian faith, life, and witness. Because of that, the church must be committed to expository preaching that proclaims Christ clearly, not merely offering advice or inspiration, but heralding the finished work of Jesus—His perfect life, substitutionary death, victorious resurrection, and glorious ascension.
They also talk about what it means to be a church that not only preaches the gospel, but sings it, prays it, and builds upon it—trusting that Jesus Himself is the One who builds His church. The result is a people marked by humility, assurance, worship, and mission—anchored not in their own strength, but in Christ.
